National Pi Day

By: My/Mochi Ice Cream

Pop quiz: what does Pi equal in mathematics? If you answered 3.14159265359…. (need we go on?), that’s impressive! The rest of us know Pi as 3.14, which is way less of a mouthful. Each year on March 14th (3.14), the world celebrates their favorite neverending number with a delicious dessert none other than… pie! So buckle up your taste buds, channel your inner math geek and get ready to celebrate National Pi Day with your friends at My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream.

What is Pi anyway?

Pi was first calculated by the greatest mathematicians of the ancient world, Archimedes of Syracuse. According to PiDay.org, Archimedes calculated Pi (π) as the ratio of a circle’s circumferences to its diameter. Pi is a constant number – so for all circles of any size, Pi will be the same. My/Mo loves circles (heck, we make mochi balls) – so why not celebrate the wonder of National Pi Day?

Did you know?

  • 2% of Americans have a Pi tattoo.
  • The great Albert Einstein’s birthday falls on National Pi Day!
  • 6% of Americans have memorized more than 10 digits in Pi.

Sweeeet. So how to best celebrate National Pi Day?

The simplest way: enjoy some pie, duhhhh. Treat yoself to the pie of your choice – whether you’re a dessert person and crave apple pie, or a savory person and prefer pizza pie. You can bake the pie yourself, or head to the bakery and pick one up to-go. Like the digits of pi, the options are endless!
