4 Flavors of Ice Cream We Can’t Believe Exist

Flavors of Ice Cream We Can’t Believe Actually Exist

If you’re the kind of person that visits new ice cream shops often, you know that the unique flavors each shop offers are often both surprising and enticing. It’s a pleasant surprise to find a flavor that you haven’t tried, and when you leave after trying it, you’re usually happy that you went for it. We know what it’s like to sell a unique product in the ice cream industry, so for the most part, we’re just so interested that these ice cream flavors actually exist. Here are four of the craziest that we’ve found.

1. Goat Cheese Beet Swirl

We can’t figure this one out for the life of us. Why on earth would someone roast beets, put goat cheese in them, and then say “hey, let’s make a flavor of ice cream out of this!” According to Sweet Action Ice Cream in Denver, it’s a delectable savory, treat. We’re going to go ahead and withhold judgement on this one for now. It just doesn’t sound that great.

2. Purple Yam Ice Cream

This one comes straight out of Pearl City at Dave’s Ice Cream, an ice cream shop that’s known for its “unique” flavors of ice cream. In order to make this one a little bit sweeter, it’s actually mixed with vanilla and comes out with a bright purple hue. By mixing the sweet from the yams with the sweet from the vanilla, this one apparently comes out tasting like a sweet potato. As for us, we’d like to keep our dessert sweet potatoes in pies, thank you very much.

3. Horseradish Ice Cream

The one thing that everyone wants from their ice cream is for it to taste like the same topping that they put on prime rib. Seriously though, if you find yourself in Queens and are in need of some serious sinus cleaning, then you need to go to Max and Mina’s to grab a scoop of horseradish ice cream. Might sound strange, but it’s a bold ice cream flavor and a brave move by this independent ice cream shop.

4. Lobster Ice Cream

You know what the weirdest ice cream flavor was when we were researching the craziest flavors? Far and away, it was lobster ice cream. Not only is this ice cream completely infused with lobster and butter, it also comes with lobster garnishes on top for you to sample. Where else could a lobster ice cream come from than Ben and Bill’s Chocolate Emporium in Maine? Maine, we know you love your lobster, but you might be taking the statewide addiction a little bit too far.

Weird Flavors of Ice Cream, But We’re Withholding Judgement

The best part of trying new ice cream shops is that you might find a strange flavor that you really end up liking. Even if these flavors don’t sound the best to you, if you find them nearby though, you should give them a shot. You might end up surprising yourself. However, if you want some ice cream that you can take with you on-the-go and is delicious one hundred percent of the time, you should always be reaching for Mochi (okay, we might be a little bit biased on this one). Either way, ice cream is one of the best things this life has to offer, so we should constantly be celebrating it!

The Surprising History of Mochi Ice Cream

  • July 5, 2016November 18, 2019
  • by My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream

Creating Mochi, the Fusion Dessert Sensation

Chances are you’ve tried or at least heard of mochi. Even if you’re not an ice cream aficionado, it’s hard to escape all the hype mochi has received in recent years. It’s not undeserved either. If you’ve tried mochi, you know the sweet dough is the perfect complement to the tasty ice cream center. However, it took quite some time for this perfect dessert to come to fruition.

Mochi

Nowadays, people refer to mochi ice cream as simply mochi. However, using the shorthand you’re referring exclusively to the dough surrounding center.

Mochi, a pounded rice cake, started the journey to the fusion dessert we’ve all come to know and love. A traditional japanese food, it is typically sold and eaten during the Japanese New Year. Traditional mochi is made during the mochitsuki ceremony where it is ceremoniously pounded. Two people work mashing and wetting the mochi, keeping a constant rhythm to avoid injuring one another.

Mochi Ice Cream Predecessors

Two mochi-like desserts are cited as the beginning of mochi ice cream. Both feature mochi surrounding a sweet paste center and may have inspired the ice cream core of mochi desserts today.

Daifuku

Daifuku has been around since the 18th century. A small round ball, mochi is filled with a sweet filling, typically red bean paste. It comes in three varieties: white mochi, pale green mochi, and pale pink mochi. The dough is covered in potato flour to keep it from sticking to hands and other mochis.

Manju

Although mochi itself is a traditional Japanese food, Mantou finds it’s roots in China. Eventually, it made its way across the East China Sea and Japan made it their own. The mochi dough in manju is often flavored while the center is traditionally a sweet bean filling. However, manju can also have whole pieces of fruit, a mix of anko and fruit, or melon paste at its core.

Mochi Ice Cream

Mochi ice cream was first created in the 1980s and featured rice starch instead of sticky rice and rice milk instead of real ice cream. In the 1990s, My/Mo created mochi in its modern form. With a secret family recipe in our arsenal, we had the brilliant idea of wrapping our delicious mochi dough around dollops of ice cream. Over twenty years later, mochi is widely available across the United States. Featuring traditional flavors like red bean and green tea but also modern flavors like mint chip and double chocolate, mochi ice cream has become America’s favorite handheld frozen treat.

Sampling Wholesale Ice Cream

  • June 25, 2016November 18, 2019
  • by My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream

Use Samples to Promote Your Wholesale Ice Cream

Everyone’s favorite part of going to the grocery store, concerts, or any large event is the free samples. Samples are a fantastic marketing tool for drinks, food, or other products that require experience to know the quality of the product. They can help customers decide to buy your product, without having to wonder if they’ll like it. Product samples help customers make the leap from interested to brand loyal.

Why You Should Sample Wholesale Ice Cream

Everyone knows the feeling standing in a store staring at a product, wondering if you should buy it because you’re not sure if you’re going to like it. Samples take that guessing game away. When people can actually try your ice cream, they know they’ll love it so they’re more likely to buy it.

Thi is especially with food and drink products. People already have trusted brands and flavors they know they love. If they only buy ice cream once a month, they don’t want to risk the unknown. Sampling allows customers to experience your product without committing, just like dipping a toe in the pool before you jump in or going on a date before you decide to get married.

People don’t want to buy products they aren’t 100% sure about. They don’t want to get home and be disappointed when they open up the can. Sampling your wholesale ice cream can take all these worries away and give them the final push they need to try your product.

Picking Your Product

If you’ve decided to sample your product, you now have a big choice to make. Which product are you going to sample? Of course you can sample all your products, but that gets very costly very fast. Generally, there are three kinds of sampling strategies: new products, hidden gems, or bestselling items. Depending on your company, you might pick one or alternate between the three. While newer brands might focus on sampling their best selling vanilla flavor to optimize brand conversion, established companies might focus on sampling hidden gems or new products to get them discovered.

Find Your Consumer

Whichever product you decide to sample, if you don’t find your target audience it will be wasted effort. Sampling is only effective if you offer your sample to people who would be interested. Sampling a baby product with the elderly wouldn’t be nearly as effective as sampling with new moms. Some ways to find your consumer and spread your brand are:

Send It to a Blogger

Bloggers and video bloggers have developed cult followings of  who watch or read their reviews to find new products to buy. If you send your wholesale ice cream to a food blogger to review, not only will you get feedback but your product will be shared with thousands of viewers who now want to try your ice cream.

Sponsor an Event

Sponsoring an event, like a concert or marathon, is an easy way to get brand recognition. Not only will your wholesale ice cream be extensively marketed at the event, but it will give people an opportunity to try your product. After seeing the name of your brand plastered everywhere over the course of several days, they’ll be interested and more likely to buy your product. This can be expensive, so make sure the event reflects your brand in some way. For example, a low fat ice cream would sample much better at a marathon than a calorie-laden one.

Put it on College Campuses

College students will try anything if it’s free. They are also the best social media campaign you can find. When they receive a cool sample, they’ll snap a pic and throw it on their story. In the era of Instagram and Snapchat, everything is shared and everyone wants to be up-to-date with the latest trends. After seeing a dozen or so of their friends with the same product, even people who didn’t sample your product will want to buy it.

Know the Difference Between These Types of Ice Cream?

  • June 15, 2016November 18, 2019
  • by My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream

Gelato, Ice Cream, Mochi Ice Cream & Frozen Yogurt—What’s the Difference?

The world of ice cream is a large and complicated place. There are many different forms of ice cream that can have us all scratching our heads wondering, “What’s the difference?”

With summer here and in full swing, you’re most likely crowding the frozen section of the grocery store, trying to choose which of these types of frozen treats will work best for your ever-changing taste buds.

There’s gelato, there’s frozen yogurt, there’s sorbet, and there’s just plain ol’ ice cream.

So, how do they all differ from each other? Keep reading to find out!

Ice Cream

Ice cream is typically known as the most popular frozen treat. To be qualified as ice cream, the frozen mixture must be made with no less than 10% milkfat, sometimes referred to as butterfat. It can also me no more than 100% overrun.

This means that the base can’t increase in volume by over 100% in the churning process. If it does, this results in a mixture that is over 50% air.

As you already know, staring at the frozen section of your local grocery store, there endless variations of ice cream.

Mochi Ice Cream

Of course, Mochi Ice Cream is our favorite. We take premium ice cream and wrap it in delicious, authentic Mochi dough, allowing you to ditch the spoon and take your ice cream with you wherever you go.

Gelato

Gelato, Ice Cream’s Italian cousin, is made with whole milk, without using added cream. This makes the milkfat percentage much lower than traditional ice cream. Also, gelato is often made without eggs and stabilizers. While it is being churned, there is little to no air whipped into it, leaving a dense, thick texture.

Frozen Yogurt

Frozen yogurt, or Fro-Yo, is a very popular form of ice cream right now. This frozen treat is made using some of the same ingredients as ice cream, but with a much lower percentage of fat. There is also yogurt mixed in, which gives it more of a tart taste.

Sorbet

Sorbet is frozen treat that contains little to no dairy. Because it is made by using frozen berries and sweetened water, it is very light in texture and flavor.

Many people believe that all sorbets are vegan, but this isn’t always the case. In some sorbets, egg whites are used to hold the mixture together a bit better.

Sherbet

Sherbet, similarly to sorbet, is a fruit-based frozen dessert, but it does contain dairy. It is made with fruit juice, milk or cream, egg whites, and in some cases, gelatin.

Sherbet ice cream is defined as a frozen dessert that contains no more than 1-3% milkfat. If the mixture goes over 3%, it is considered ice cream. If it is under 1%, it is considered water ice.

Choosing the Right Ice Cream Variation for You

Sherbet, sorbet, frozen yogurt, Mochi ice cream, and gelato are all equally delicious, but have unique ingredients. Because these different variations are all extremely close to one another, they are often referred to as ice cream. Now you know the differences between each so you can shop for the right ice cream for your taste buds.

DIY Ice Cream Tips from Our Ice Cream Company

  • June 10, 2016November 18, 2019
  • by My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream

DIY Ice Cream Flavors That Rival Leading Ice Cream Companies

Ice cream is always a good idea. It’s perfect in the summer time to beat the heat, but it’s also a good way to end a night in during the winter.

There are so many different ice cream companies out there that finding your favorite flavor can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Rather than searching through flavor after flavor at the store, why not try to make ice cream on your own?

Many people think that making ice cream at home can be a long and daunting process—but that’s not true! There’s many different ways to create your favorite ice cream flavors at home

1. Making Ice Cream in a Bag

This is one of the most basic methods to make ice cream at home.

To start, fill a gallon sized plastic bag half-full of ice. Then, add in ½ cup of salt to the ice. This will help freeze your ice cream creation and create a fluffy, creamy texture.

In a smaller plastic bag, mix a cup of half and half, 2 tablespoons of sugar, and your desired flavor. Seal the bag tightly and place it into your bag of ice.

Seal the bag inside tightly and shake the two bags together. Continually shake the bag for around 10 minutes or until the texture is firm, like ice cream.

Once you get the texture you desire, you’re ready to serve! It’s that simple.

For a classic vanilla flavor, you can try adding a half teaspoon of vanilla extract. This way, you can serve your homemade ice cream with whatever toppings you like—fresh fruit, sprinkles, cookies—the possibilities are endless.

2. Making Ice Cream Using a Food Processor

If you are looking for a healthier, dairy free ice cream creation, try using frozen bananas and a food processor!

Did you know that bananas make for the perfect ice cream base? Now you do! Toss a bunch of bananas into a food processor along with your favorite flavors—peanut butter, hazelnut spread, strawberries, blueberries—the possibilities are endless.

Blend your mix together to instantly create ice cream! To make it a bit creamier, try adding in a dash of milk or almond milk.

3. Making Ice Cream in the Freezer

This is another simple method to create your own, homemade ice cream. Using heavy cream, condensed milk, and a bit of elbow grease, you can create your own delicious ice cream.

This method lets your freezer do all the work so you can get out and do all of the things you have on your to-do list and come home to a freezer full of delicious ice cream.

Start by pouring heavy cream into a large mixing bowl. Whip your cream using a whisk or a hand mixer. Once the heavy cream is completely whipped, pour in sweetened condensed milk. Once the whipped cream and the condensed milk are completely mixed together, place in the freezer.

This mixture will take about 5-8 hours to freeze completely. Make it at night and let it freeze overnight! You’ll wake up to a delicious frozen treat that you can customize to make completely your own.

3 Reasons Why Your Store Should Offer Ethnic Foods

  • May 25, 2016November 18, 2019
  • by My/Mo Mochi Ice Cream

3 Benefits Ethnic Wholesale Ice Cream Can Bring to Your Store

Are you looking to add some variety to your store? By incorporating ethnic foods, such as wholesale Mochi ice cream in your store, you can experience many benefits other than just adding variety to your shelves. Keep reading to learn about the many benefits that ethnic foods can bring to your store below!

Lets Customers Experience a New Culture

Offering ethnic foods, such as wholesale Mochi ice cream, to customers in your store can make it easier for customers in your area to experience a new culture. While these foods may seem strange at first, many consumers will be more intrigued to put the ice cream in their cart.

This curiosity is prevalent in many consumers’ minds. Seeing something out of their ordinary shopping habits can spark a sense of interest and make it easier for them to try something new.

For those that don’t have the ability to experience new cultures first-hand, trying new foods can be their way to explore. By stocking your shelves with ethnic, wholesale Mochi ice cream, you can help assist in their exploration.

Opens Your Doors to New Customers

While seeing the same faces come in and out of your store can be great, seeing new faces can be inspiring. This shows that your store is diversifying and becoming a resource for more people in your community.

By offering a selection of ethnic foods in your store, you are opening your doors to a broader audience of customers.

Rather than having to find a local, ethnic market, consumers will be able to find their favorite, traditional foods at your store. This can help them get more acquainted into the community and help you increase your sales to a demographic you never thought possible.

Ethnic Wholesale Ice Cream Can Make Your Store Stand Out from Others

We have experienced many grocery store owners that struggle to make their store stand out from others. Rather than struggling with endless marketing techniques, try offering a broader selection of ethnic foods.

Mochi ice cream comes in a wide variety of flavors—some that are nontraditional in the American culture, including:

  • Black Sesame
  • Green Tea
  • Red Bean
  • Plume Wine, and more.

Your store will be recognized and known for carrying more than just the traditional assortment of foods. This can spark interest in the minds of consumers and help your store gain that competitive advantage it’s been looking for.

Adding Wholesale Mochi Ice Cream to Your Store

Adding just any brand of Mochi ice cream in your store will not give you the benefits listed above. Finding the right brand of authentic and delicious Mochi ice cream for your customers is key to helping them build a connection with your store. Choosing wholesale ice cream brands can be a difficult task, especially when they specialize in items you might have never heard of before. Take the time to refine your search to the original and best brands of any ethnic foods you aspire to sell in your store before taking the plunge.
